First meeting of the UK working group of the Cambridge Consortium for Bioethics Education

Date: Thursday 26th May 2016

Time: 2:30-4:30pm

Venue: St Mary’s University, Waldegrave Road, Strawberry Hill, Twickenham, London, TW1 4SX

This first meeting of the UK working group is designed to set out the vision of the working group, consider future ideas for cooperation and action as well as network with those involved in bioethics education from across the UK.

The Cambridge Consortium of Bioethics Education aims to foster interaction between bioethics educators for developing bioethics education and works in connection with the Cambridge University Press. Since the first meeting in Paris in 2010, the Consortium meets annually and champions bioethics education by fostering on-going discussion around the key questions: What are we doing? What goals are we trying to achieve? Where is bioethics education taking place? How well are we doing? What’s next?

The working groups have grown out of the consortium and have the aim of:

Encouraging and supporting those working in bioethics education

Promoting collaboration in developing bioethics education and practice in their respective countries

Sharing information and developing mutual projects

Furthering how bioethics is taught in universities, hospitals, and for the general public

As a guest you will have an opportunity to hear of innovative ideas being used in bioethics education and share from your own experience and practice.

Dr CHRIS WILLMOTT, Senior Lecturer in biochemistry at the University of Leicester, will be making a lead presentation on the use of multimedia in bioethics teaching.
