UW Online Certificate: Advanced Training in Healthcare Ethics



The UW School of Medicine’s Department of Bioethics & Humanities now offers an online certificate program, Advanced Training in Healthcare Ethics.  Applications are due 8/31/19 for admission to the 2019-2020 program, which begins in September 2019.  This program can help you prepare for the certification exam to be Healthcare Ethics Consultation-Certified by the American Society for Bioethics & Humanities.

8th Edition of the Intensive Course on Foundational Approaches, Contemporary and Educational Issues in Nursing Ethics


3-6 December 2019, Leuven, Belgium


The Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law of the KU Leuven is organizing the 8th edition of the Intensive Course on Nursing Ethics. The objective of the course is to foster exchanges on foundational and methodological approaches as well as on contemporary and educational issues in nursing ethics. This course works from an interdisciplinary – philosophical, nursing, clinical-ethical – perspective.


During the course, national and international experts will give presentations on various topics in the domain of nursing ethics. There will be time for intensive discussions. The language of instruction will be English.


The course is of interest to participants from diverse professional backgrounds, such as nursing, medicine, philosophy and theology, health care administration, and is open to health care workers, people from universities and university colleges, members of ethics committees or ethics consultation services, and PhD students undertaking courses of study in these areas.

Advanced Training in Healthcare Ethics certificate program

The UW School of Medicine's Department of Bioethics & Humanities is now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 online Advanced Training in Healthcare Ethics certificate program, which begins in September 2019.  This course will help prepare you for the Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified credentialing exam (HEC-C). For more details, please visit the University of Washington's Department of Bioethics and Humanities website here.

2019 European Conference on Philosophy of Medicine & Health Care

August 7-10, 2019, University of Oslo. The host of this conference is Centre for Medical Ethics at the University of Oslo. The title of the conference is: "Philosophy and Ethics at the Edge of Medicine." We are pleased to announce our five keynote speakers:

Professor Lisa Tessman, Binghampton University NY; Professor Sigrid Sterckx, Ghent Unviersity; Professor Mark Kuczewski, Loyola University Chicago; Professor Reidun Førde, University of Oslo; and Professor Bjørn Hofmann, University of Oslo.

Master of Bioethics in Leuven

Since 2000, the Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law of the University of Leuven (Belgium) has offered a Master of Bioethics programme in collaboration with the University of Padova (Italy) and the Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands). More than 270 students from 70 different countries have since then followed the programme.

From the academic year 2016-2017 the University of Leuven is coordinating a newly designed curriculum hosting students during a whole academic year in Leuven.

For the academic year 2016-2017, various fellowships will be granted to students who want to participate in their Master of Bioethics programme.
