Professor Kenneth Boyd, General Secretary of Governing Body & Company

Kenneth Boyd is Professor of Medical Ethics and Director of Clinical Skills, Personal and Professional Development, College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, University of Edinburgh. He is Secretary of the Institute of Medical Ethics, Chair of the Boyd Group on the use of animals in science, and a Deputy Editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1997. Editor of the ‘1987 Pond Report on the Teaching of Medical Ethics’, he is author of numerous papers on medical ethics, including most recently ‘Medical ethics: principles, persons, and perspectives: from controversy to conversation’, Journal of Medical Ethics 2005; 31:481-486, and ‘Genetic Models of Disease Resistance in Livestock: “What Does Our Conscience Want?”’, SCRIPT-ed (2008) 5:1; 161-167.
