Grants & Awards

The Institute of Medical Ethics offers, apart from the Student Elective Bursaries, two new kinds of awards for medical students: bursaries for internships and scholarships (covering the next academic year) for students wishing to do an intercalated degree in medical ethics or an allied subject. Also institutional grants to support meetings or other activities of which medical ethics is a substantial component are now available. (As is summarized in this notice: pdf ).

Please note that each award has its own application form and that closing dates differ. Click on an icon in the sections below to download the relevant document.

Medical Student Electives

Eight bursaries of up to £600 each to support Medical Student Electives, or exceptionally Student Selected Components, on issues in medical ethics.

Medical students, jointly with their supervisor, are invited to apply by February 19th 2010. On reflection we have decided to extend this deadline (initially January 31st). Successful applicants will now be informed by April 7th 2010 rather than March 31st 2010. The BMA website provides a 'toolkit' that can be helpful for ethics and medical electives in resource-poor countries.
